ACCENT - I DO

The ACCENT (Action on Climate Change through Engagement, Networks and Tools) consortium is made up of 15 partners from across Europe, including 13 science centres, museums and aquaria. The project is also open to European institutions who would like to get involved.

“I do” is the message of the ACCENT project, which coordinates a European action on climate change, engaging the public inside and outside of science centres and museums across Europe throughout 2010.

With the words “I do,” we make a lifelong commitment to tackle the causes of climate change. Throughout Europe, science centres and museums invite the public and scientists to come together and discuss the issues at stake. This campaign brings these institutions together, promoting and furthering the European debate on how to tackle this global issue.

Recommendations of the Citizens

In the frame on the European project ACCENT, Nausicaá – National Sea Centre organized on October 2^nd and December 3^rd in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France, Local Citizens Debates. The aim was to engage citizens in the debate of climate change and to collect their perception on related issues. They specially dealt with communication on climate change and oceans to the public at large and brought propositions on order to improve it.

Tout cela vous donne l’envie d’agir, d’échanger sur la question de la communication relative au changement climatique et à l’océan, de faire des propositions pour améliorer cette communication ?

Si ce sujet vous intéresse, Nausicaa?, dans le cadre du projet ACCENT*, vous propose de participer à un Forum de Citoyens soit le vendredi 22 octobre, soit le samedi 23 octobre 2010 de 9 h 30 à 17 h 30, à Boulogne-sur-mer. Vous trouverez en cliquant le courrier d'invitation à ce forum gratuit et ouvert à tous à partir de 18 ans, ainsi que le formulaire d’inscription (dans la limite des places disponibles).

* « Action on Climate Change through Engagement, Networks and Tools » = Action sur le Changement Climatique par l’Engagement, les Réseaux et les Outils. Il s’agit d’une campagne européenne à laquelle participent différentes institutions qui élaborent des outils de communication et les diffusent auprès d’un grand nombre de citoyens européens. Son objectif est de susciter l’intérêt et d’organiser des débats sur les enjeux du changement climatique, les risques et les impacts pour chacune des personnes concernées, i.e. le grand public, les décideurs politiques et les parties prenantes.

I DO launch event - A COLLECTIVE EUROPEAN ACTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE

Monday 14th December 2009, 12:30 – 18:00, Experimentarium, Hellerup, Denmark

In the context of the COP15 United Nations Climate Change Conference, we invited you to Experimentarium, Denmark for the launch of “I do.”

“I do” is the message of ACCENT, a European project bringing together science centres and museums in a collective action on climate change in 2010.

Experts from across the field of climate change communication, scientists, policymakers and stakeholders came together to exchange views in an afternoon of inspiring speeches, workshops, shows, demonstrations and a reception in Experimentarium’s new Energy exhibition, in the presence of Denmark’s Minister for Science, Mr Helge Sander.

This was an opportunity to discover what Europe’s science centres and museums have planned for 2010 on climate change, as well as to discuss the issues at the heart of public engagement on this crucial topic. This programme of public engagement activities, along with the website and resource centre, has been launched at the timeliest of occasions, as world leaders meet to agree a framework for climate change mitigation.
