We can make a difference

Together our efforts can make a difference in the fight to save the ocean. Every individual gesture, no matter how small, is valuable, and will help to turn the corner towards a more sustainable stewardship of the ocean.

Recognising that the ocean is in danger is a first step.

It is important to find out about the issues and threats facing the ocean if we wish to make the necessary changes to our lifestyles.

Talking to, discussing and warning one’s fellow citizens about the degradation of the ocean, and the consequences of this, will contribute to a more widespread awareness of the problem.

Your participation in local initiatives, your support for not-for-profit or voluntary associations and their projects, are needed to develop and establish initiatives for the ocean over the long-term.

Everyday gestures anyone can make

The ocean is affected by pollution from our waste. 80% of the waste found at sea comes from human activities on land.

What can each of us do ?

-         Dispose of waste properly.

-         Avoid using disposable plastic bags for shopping, use a handbasket or cardboard box instead.

-         Opt for products which use minimal packaging.

Sort waste properly.

The ecological balance of marine and aquatic spaces is in danger. 50 % of mangrove forests have already vanished and 27% of coral reefs have also been destroyed.

What can each of us do ?

- Avoid releasing any pollutants onto the ground or into the water course.

- When purchasing give preference to products which are not harmful for the environment.

We are witnessing the over-exploitation of living sea resources.

What can each of us do ?
- Only catch or purchase fish which respect the minimum regulatory size for their species, otherwise they won’t have the opportunity to reproduce ,

Atmospheric pollution and changes to the climate are endangering not only natural ocean equilibria, but also the lifestyles and livelihoods of tens of thousands of people across the world.

What can each of us do ?

-         Opt for low-energy use modes of transport : the bus, the bicycle or car sharing for example.

-         When shopping opt for local produce/products that have not been brought in over long distances.

Get into the habit of not leaving electrical/electronic devices in standby mode.
