They enable the scientific community, decision-makers from the world of politics and the general public to meet to discuss issues related to the ocean.
Members of the public can have their say, ask questions and learn about ocean preservation, and what is at stake. They can then, in turn, play a crucial role in raising awareness and informing others about these issues.
Open debates are needed to build public awareness about why the ocean matters. They make connections between different stakeholder groups, facilitating face-to-face contact, fostering knowledge transfer and improving capabilities.
